Preparing for Your Flight Training Program
For the Private Pilot Program
Before you arrive:
- Complete the Jeppesen online lessons GL 1, GL 2 + Exam, GL 3 + Exam, GL 4 + Exam
- Complete an FAA Medical Exam
- You can locate an AME at http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator
Bring with you:
- Current FAA Medical Certificate
- For students going on to the Airline Career Pilot Program, a First Class Medical Certificate is required
- For students doing the Private Pilot Program only, a Third Class Medical Certificate is required
- Identification
- U.S. Citizens:
Unexpired valid US passport (Blue), or
Original or certified copy of your birth certificate and a government issued photo ID (no photo copies) - Non-U.S. Citizens:
Comply with TSA Requirements
- U.S. Citizens:
- Payment
- Cash or check (If financing is to be used, make sure loan process is complete)
For Training:
- All training materials shipped to you
- Headset
- Kneeboard that has an IFR (instrument flight rules) placard
- Flashlight (Recommend MagLite or Smith & Wesson brands.
Flashlights with colored lenses recommended to protect night vision.) - View Limiting Device
Recommended:
- PCAS (portable collision avoidance system) device – we recommend the Zaon Flight Systems MRX
- Laptop computer with wireless internet capability
Dress:
- Khaki pants (solid colors)
- Khaki shorts (summer months, solid colors)
- Long and short sleeve shirts with a collar (solid colors)
- Closed toed shoes (no sandals)
- Dress clothes for check ride (formal shirt, tie, slacks)
For Housing:
- Linens for twin size mattress
- Bath linens
- Cell phone *
* You must have an SMS/text messaging-enabled mobile phone to receive important communications from ATP during your training. There is no charge for this service, but standard text messaging rates may apply as provided in your carrier's wireless plan (contact your carrier for pricing plans and details). ATP recommends an “unlimited” text messaging plan, since you may send/receive 100+ text messages per month.
Transportation:
- Vehicle for travel to and from the training center
